MISSING DOLL

The Missing Doll
I just lost my Mom on Feb. 28th. She and I never bonded when I was a child. I really don't know why, but my older brother was her favorite.
The top picture is of me and my brother when I was about 4 years old. As an abused child, my Mama doll was my favorite. She was a kind of surrogate mother you might say. I'd hold her and pretend that she was my baby and I her Mama. Somehow, it comforted me, made me feel loved.
The dolls in the pictures were all thrown away over the years, but after searching for many years, I found one like it (the 2nd picture) for sale at a nursing home where my daughter worked. It now sits in a place of honor in my curio cabinet with other vintage dolls.
My mother and I made our peace with each other before she passed away. I have 4 children and 11 grandchildren, and they all know they are loved by me. A child needs to have that love. Without it, they will search for it in other places.
